Heavy Toll

The time away has cleared my mind

I now can move ahead

Those months of great uncertainty

with phantoms in my head

The issues are now clear to me

I wandered from my course

I tried to fill an emptiness

instead feel great remorse

Sometimes the issues from our past

still hold on to our soul

A gaping wound that never heals

and takes a heavy toll
