For months on end I've felt detached
I stay so damned confused
I don't know how to deal with this
afraid what I might lose
My children have been whispering
some words behind my back
Their faces showing deep concern
afraid what I might lack
I can't remember anything
Dear God what do I do?
It seems as though my mind has gone
I know that can't be true
I wish that Jane were still with me
she'd know just what to do
I hope this all will go away
please help me see this through

Maggie Dibenedetto Thanks, Jon. Your poem brought tears to my eyes because my mother-in-law has Alzheimers and that's what she must have felt like in the beginning. If you haven't had your work published, please do so. Your poems have meaning for a lot of people.

Sallie Mullins spend time listening to the same story they told you 10 minutes ago, last month, year.... LOVE THEM, share with them, for you will MISS them when they're gone. oh and the tears will flow whenever the missing doesn't seem so strong but, THEN it must be since the tears and sobs just have to errupt. ;~)

Jane Richer This disease is horrific and so many people it hurts too, not just the family member who has partial or total loss of memory but it strikes at the family too, they are forgotten, named wrong, ignored or told that they no longer exist in a loved ones mind! This disease, punches holes in a family some completely unmendable. This poem captures the anguish perfectly! Love Jane
