The rain has been pouring
for most of the night
I really am worried
I might lose the lights
They soon start to flicker
the power goes out
A log on the fire
many more no doubt
This old house gets lonely
on long nights like this
I wish I had someone
to hold and to kiss
The children are grown
my wife laid to rest
I stay so damn angry
alone and depressed
I have to do something
To live life again
Each day is a struggle
I will not pretend
I’ll wait for tomorrow
and go into town
Go do some shopping
and then look around
So I'll call up a friend
I knew in my youth
I hear now she’s single
maybe coffee at Ruth’s

ReplyDeleteA nice optimistic twist at the end my friend, the rain always fades. Great poetry here as well, showing true and raw emotion with a nice rhythm and flow.
ReplyDeleteEverything in this work is written descriptively well with good rhyming. Overall, an impressive piece.
