I went to see a broken friend
to say how much I cared
But when I saw her in her room
a shell is all I found
So fragile was this friend of mine
she often could not cope
The storms engulfed her mind each day
no balm could heal her wounds
How sad to see her brokenness
she now was numb to life
Her spirit left this world one day
her body stayed behind

ReplyDeleteHello jonarno
ReplyDeleteThis is so upsetting which is a reflection on your fine writing as you took me through your personal experience and emotions with such gentle expressions of compassion and a sense of loss.
The first line of each section has a particular strong sense of damage and the last line of each part seems an almost resignation (even though heartbreaking ) that you cannot help nor pacify.
How much you care leaks through your pen (if you get my meaning)
This reminds me so much of a place in my mind I visited nearly two years ago after suffering a painful loss, which is why I know this holds such strong meaning to me.
Love the title btw
Thank you for such a write

ReplyDeleteThis is very sad, Jon. The last two lines of the third stanza brought it all together. Well written verse. Happy New Yea! Love, Annalise
